A small print shop in India that makes one kind of thing: the sky over a particular night, drawn properly.
A Star Was Born is a small print shop in India. We make one kind of thing: the sky over a particular night, computed from the date and place and printed on good paper.
Each poster is drawn from real astronomy, checked against an independent ephemeris, and printed to order. If something is wrong with yours, we reprint it.
Why the sky
Everyone has one night that is theirs.
Most keepsakes are about a place or a face. This one is about the hour: what was overhead when someone arrived, or when two people decided something. It is the same sky for everyone who was there, and no one else’s.
We started by making these for our own family, got particular about the astronomy, and kept going.
Pl. II
Computed, not drawn.
Nothing on the chart is placed by hand. If a star is on your poster, it was in that spot in the sky.
Give us a date and a place and we work out the sky the way an observatory would: the turn of the Earth that night, the height of every star, the Moon’s phase to the hour.
The same code that draws your preview draws the print file, so what you approve on screen is what comes off the printer. Every build is checked star by star against an independent astronomy library before anything is printed.
